The latest casualty to bear the brunt of Arambai Tenggol brutality is one Haobam Naocha (35) of Tejpur Mayai Leikai, Kakching district who was killed by the Kakching Unit of Arambai Tenggol on 1st January 2024. The deceased Naocha was allegedly charged with blackmailing a girl. Another eight were also grievously injured by the Arambai goons.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the killing demanded clarification from the Arambai Tenggol headquarters, stating that if the incident is not at all related with Arambai Tenggol as stated by them in their clarification statement issued today, the chief of Arambai Tenggol, Mr. Korounganba Khuman should come out with evidence that 26 Unit of Arambai Tenggol (Kakching) is not involved in the crime and that the 32 armed men who claimed themselves as members of Arambai Tenggol should be banished from Arambai Tenggol.
Of late, the Arambai Tenggol goons have been notoriously infamous for creating chaos in the Imphal valley, torturing, killing and looting at will without any reprimandation from the state law enforcing agencies. They seem to have the license to kill anyone who disobey their diktats, acting as Moral Police on various occasions.
Dramatically, the chief patron of Arambai Tenggol, Chief Minister N. Biren shed crocodile tear over the many misconducts of his private armed militia group.
Addressing a group of reporters after his visit to injured police personnel at RIMS, Biren was seen howling furiously about the recent incident which escalated the growing tension among different communities in the state. The chief minister said that the people are taking law into their own hands and this has led to more problems than solution, indirectly taking a potshot at the Arambai Tenggol.
“You guys are doing anything whatever you want. There is law. If any dispute arises, inform the concerned authority. There is government, we will solve the issue amicably. You all are responsible for disturbing peace in the valley and if AFSPA in re-imposed again in the valley, you all will be held responsible,” he said.
Ironically, despite the plethora of evidence against the Arambai Tenggol directly involved in crime, there have been no report of action taken against them by the police department. Rather, they enjoy the patronage of the state chief minister N. Biren and RS MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, which emboldened them to carry out their terror activity.
In short, Biren is shedding crocodile tears to conceal all his wrongdoings.
