Country road, take me home

When this war is over,
Mom will be healthy again and her smile will be restored.
I’ll ask her to cook my brother’s favourite meal
His shoulders must be hurting from the countless piggybacks he has given me
But resting my head on his back reminds me of dad’s warmth.
When this war is over,
Maybe I'll be an inch taller and stronger by a fist
I’ll tell my brother that I can help him with the chores
He won’t be as tired as he is now
Now he’s short on hands ever since dad’s passing.
When this war is over,
My brother and I will go for evening walks along this country road
Hoping it leads us back home…
