Manipur Commandos, A Colonial Legacy!!

During World War II, the British had raised elite forces known as commandos for special purposes like covert strikes. These were highly skilled-trained combatants who used to remain on the field for long hours. The concept of having a small, highly specialised unit of commandos was a concept that was introduced by the British. This colonial legacy has continued, and the Radicalised Meitei government of Manipur has effectively used it in the current ethnic cleansing against the Kukis.

Manipur Commandos, the term, is not officially incorporated in the state’s law enforcement structure. Instead, it refers to specialised units that are formed by recruiting skilled young personnel from the Manipur Rifles, local police, and the Indian Reserve Battalion. The process of forming and disbanding squads of commandos is highly flexible since there is nothing official about it.

The recent appointment of Colonel Nectar Sanjenbam(retired) is highly questionable because a retired Meitei officer given a sanctioned post of SSP when other in-service officers are in line. This is possible only by bypassing the rules with the intention to sharpen the Commandos to effectively annihilate the Kukis using guerrilla warfare. This proves to be true with the recent assault at Pallen Village and killing of a Kuki Villlage Volunteer, ambush of Three Kuki civilians and the killing of one Kuki SI with a sniper all within a span of few days. These are strong evidence that Meitei Terrorist groups banned under UAPA are working in tandem with the state security forces. It is crystal clear that Meities and the Biren government is Anti-National.

Recently, Rajkumar Imo Singh, a Meitei BJP MLA questioned the morality of the Kuki MLAs taking salary from the Manipur government while advocating for Separate Administration. Mr. Singh must certainly be aware that members of the Manipur Commandos too draw salaries from the treasury. So, it is highly advisable to the concern MLA not to point fingers and questioned about the morality of our MLAs; because when you point a finger at someone, the other three fingers are pointing back at you.

At the end of the day the commandos are picked by the CM office, but unofficially. It is like a “private army for the state,”.
